No Cause Determined Yet For LaVale House Fire

Investigators are continuing efforts to determine the cause of Tuesday's fire that heavily damaged a residence at 904 Weires Ave., according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Allegany County 911 dispatchers alerted LaVale Volunteer Fire Department and allied volunteer companies at about 5 p.m. after the owner, Larry Warnick, discovered the fire.

 

Forty-five volunteer firefighters responded to the incident and controlled the fire 20 minutes into the firefighting operation.

Damage to the single-story structure was estimated at $60,000 to the residence and $15,000 to its contents.

 

The fire originated in the kitchen but the cause and origin of the blaze has not yet been determined, according to the fire marshal's office.

Smoke alarms in the dwelling were activated by the fire.

Lonaconing, Ellerslie, Bowling Green, Cresaptown, Mount Savage, Frostburg, Shaft and Ridgeley volunteer fire companies also responded to the scene along with the LaVale Rescue Squad.
