Nonpartisan Commission To Focus on District Lines

Maryland's governor announced this week that a "nonpartisan" emergency commission will be created to draw new boundaries for a congressional district- with a focus on the sixth district which includes Allegany and Garrett counties.  Republican Governor Larry Hogan says the commission will craft a redistricting plan for its sixth congressional district that isn't tarnished by gerrymandering. In Maryland, Democrats were in charge of the last controversial redistricting. The announcement comes weeks after a panel of federal judges ordered Maryland to submit a new map for its sixth district.  Hogan has been pushing for re-districting since taking office but has been met with strong push back from the Democrat controlled General Assembly. Hogan says this is an issue that had broad bi partisan support among voters and political groups- and it is frustrating to see Senate and House leaders block the previous efforts…
