Off season improvements at Embassy Theatre

January 29th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Embassy Theater might be closed during the winter months, but much activity has been going on behind closed doors. Many improvements and renovations have taken place thanks to the help of volunteers and a dedicated board of directors. The treasury expanded this past year after a very successful 2019 season, and several grants and generous donations helped this necessary work be accomplished.

Starting in the lobby area, new colors have been selected and fresh paint will now greet patrons with warmer and brighter hues. The reorganized bar area has a recent 30 ft cooler added as well. The rest rooms have been converted to unisex and refurbished to better serve patrons. The box office booth at the front now houses a video display with messages and upcoming events. The tech room has been enclosed with improvements made to both the lighting panel and sound board.

Moving into the seating area, some of the biggest features are new lights for the house area. Also, funds have been sequestered to invest in new seating options. Audiences may not see backstage, but performers will now have new steps leading up to the dressing rooms, which are also being updated.

The Embassy will finish these renovations in time for the April 2020 season that kicks off with "Confessions From The Ladies Room" by Shane Riggs. Timothy Bambara has curated our exciting next season, his first as the Embassy’s new Artistic Director, with classics, musicals, new works, and kids favorites. Assisting Mr. Bambara with this ambitious schedule of eight theatrical productions will be a new panel of Associate Directors. Patrons may view details of events as they are published by visiting us on Facebook at embassytheatrecumberland, or on the web at embassytheatrecorp.org.
