Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley added his signature this week to a bill expanding preschool education initiatives across the state. The new law will provide prekindergarten to 4-year-olds from families earning less than three times the federal poverty guidelines, or $71,550 for a family of four. The Maryland budget this year sets aside $4.3 million to pay for the new initiative, and the bill signed Tuesday commits the state to providing at least the same funding totals in future years. Lt. Gov.
