O’Malley Signs Pre-School Initiatives Bill

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley added his signature this week  to a bill expanding preschool education initiatives across the state. The new law will provide prekindergarten to 4-year-olds from families earning less than three times the federal poverty guidelines, or $71,550 for a family of four. The Maryland budget this year sets aside $4.3 million to pay for the new initiative, and the bill signed Tuesday commits the state to providing at least the same funding totals in future years. Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who helped promote the education expansion bill during the state's legislative session, said this bill will give  more than 15 hundred Maryland children access to full- or half-day prekindergarten…
