O’Malley to Testify Today on Coastal Wind Energy

Although its been an uphill battle trying to secure votes in the general assembly for it- a recent poll shows strong support for the governor’s bill to establish off shore wind energy turbines off the coast of Ocean City. Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley testifies today before the Senate Finance Committee- of which George Edwards is a member. The governor sees wind energy as a low cost, environmentally friendly source of electricity. Under the measure, Maryland residents could pay a surcharge on their electric bill of up to $1.50 a month once the turbines become operative. The governor has proposed similar legislation in past years which has failed to clear the Maryland General Assembly. A poll shows however shows that there is popular support for the proposal even if it would lead to additional cost…
