On Wednesday morning at approximately 12:30 AM the Cumberland City Police Department was dispatched to the area of East First Street and Virginia Avenue for a domestic assault in progress. Officers received information that the male suspect had pushed a woman through a fence and was actively assaulting her. Officers arrived on scene and located a damaged fence in the area. Officers then heard a female yelling for help in an apartment nearby. Officers forced entry into the apartment and contacted Joseph Jacob Turner. Mr. Turner then assaulted an officer before he was taken into custody. Officers checked the victim and observed injuries consistent with an assault. The victim did not require medical treatment. Mr. Turner was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. Mr. Turner was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
Arrested – Joseph Jacob Turner (44) Cumberland, MD
Charges – Assault 2nd Degree (Two counts), Resisting Arrest, Disturbing the Peace, Obstructing and Hindering
