On Thursday night, 01/29/2015, at approximately 10:25 PM, the Cumberland Police responded to a private residence in the 100 block of East First Street in Cumberland for a reported stabbing. When Officers arrived they discovered two victims, a 26 year old female and a 33 year old male, who had both been stabbed, along with numerous witnesses.

The female victim was transported by the Cumberland Fire Department ambulance to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The male victim, 33 year old Christopher John Wigington, of Cumberland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Originally some of the subjects present provided the police with information about two suspects responsible for the assault who had fled the scene. They provided descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle they left the scene in.

Cumberland Police, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, secured the scene and contacted the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I). C3I Investigators responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Through numerous interviews Investigators determined the initial information provided by witnesses was false and had been concocted to protect the identity of the true suspect. Continued interviews eventually led Investigators to the identity of the suspect.

As a result Investigators charged 26 year old Ralph Richard Faith, Jr. with 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, and two counts of Reckless Endangerment. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
