One Suspect in Custody; Second at Large in Shooting Incident

On Sunday, 6/3/18, at 10:29PM, the Cumberland Police responded to the Decatur Street area for the report of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 18 year old male victim with a gunshot wound to his upper left side. The victim was transported to the Western Maryland Region Medical Center, treated and released.

The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

An investigation was initiated and it was determined the victim was walking in the area of Baltimore Street and Altamont Terrance when he was approached by two males. One of the males produced a gun and shot the victim. The scene was processed by Cumberland Police and evidence was recovered at the scene.

Investigators were able to determine the suspects were 18 year old Matthew Washington and 17 year old Akhary Williams.

Investigators located Matthew Washington who was charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment. He is currently awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

Akhary Williams is being charged as an adult and is currently at large.

The Allegany County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police assisted Cumberland Police at the scene.
