Opportunities Still Bright For Former HRDC Building

While it appears it won’t become part of the University of Maryland System- prospects for post secondary education opportunities still appear bright for the former HRDC building at 19 Frederick Street in Cumberland. It was at a public work session earlier this year that Cumberland City Councilman David Kauffman said that five institutions of higher education had expressed interest in occupying the 15,500-square-foot space, facility.  The city should know in the near future whether one of those deals will happen, but the building wouldn’t be ready to be occupied for at least 18 months. The city’s economic development coordinator Shawn Hershberger was asked about the status of the project during Tuesday’s meeting of the Cumberland Rotary Club. He said the plan remains to attempt to utilize the facility for higher education…
