Overnight Lane Closures planned

May 17th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Beginning Sunday, May 19, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin the final stage of the bridge rehabilitation project along I-70 over I-81. Crews will pave and install pavement markings and guardrail on the westbound I-70 bridge over I-81 in Hagerstown, Washington County.

Motorists can expect nighttime single lane closures and occasional ramp closures and detours Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. through the end of June. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Triton Construction, Inc. of St. Albans, WV, will use barrels and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.

Approximately 63,000 vehicles per day use this section of I-70, but traffic volumes are lower during the overnight hours. Motorists and commercial drivers are encouraged to allow extra commuting time during construction. Click here for more information on the overall project.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
