Package Of Budget Measures Will Keep MD House Of Delegates Busy

A package of budget measures will be keeping the Maryland House of Delegates busy this week. The House Ways and Means Committee considered a bill to raise income taxes on most Maryland taxpayers on Monday afternoon. The Senate has already approved a budget. House leaders are hoping to have delegates give final approval to their version of the budget by the end of the week. A House-Senate conference committee would then work out a compromise that would be the final state budget. Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine, who essentially serves as the county’s legislative liaison with weekly trips to Annapolis, said that tax hikes are definitely the preferred solution to the state’s budget deficit by the governor and a majority of lawmakers…
