Paint The Town Pink Week

Monday marked the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month- and it also kicked off the start of Paint the Town Pink Week throughout the tri-state area. Paint the Town Pink Week started several years ago as a way to recognize the importance of breast cancer awareness, along with early detection, and ultimately a prelude to the annual Making Strides walk. People can participate in this week’s activities by wearing pink-colored clothing; or, they can decorate their business, home, yard or vehicle with pink. Jennifer Hare, volunteer publicity chairwoman of the event, said the annual 5K fundraiser walk is scheduled for October 20th with a 10 a.m. registration and the opening program beginning at 9 a.m. at the Canal Place festival grounds in downtown Cumberland. The walk travels from the Great Allegheny Passage to the Narrows and back. She says one of the highlights each year is the large number of cancer survivors who choose to participate…
