Parking Situation Downtown Frustrates Visitors To Railway Station

Some changes in policies and prices at some parking lots in downtown Cumberland has created a few problems for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.  In recent months management at the Cumberland Times News has implemented a far more vigilant approach to monitoring the use of its parking lot on North Mechanic Street adjacent to the newspaper building, routinely having vehicles that are not permitted towed from the site- now including evenings and weekends. In addition the Canal Place Authority has increased prices to park at the lot adjacent to the times news lot. This has left many visitors to the railway station frustrated, with some having had their cars towed while they were riding the train.
