Part Of Governors Budget Draws Criticism

With less than a month to go before the deadline for lawmakers to approve a new state budget, hearings are underway in Annapolis in the Senate and House. One aspect of Governor Martin O'Malley's budget has drawn the criticism of both Treasurer Nancy Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot. Kopp, who chairs the state's employee pension board, and Franchot who is the vice chairman appeared before both Senate and House committees telling lawmakers to reject the governor's proposal to use money intended to shore up pension liabilities to fill a hole in the state budget.   Franchot came under fire by Delegate John Bohanan, Jr for not offering an alternative to the governor's proposal…
