Pedestrian Fatality in Washington County

(Downsville, MD) – Troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack are investigating a vehicle collision that resulted in the death of one (1) pedestrian.
On 05/2/2013 at approximately 0826hrs, troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack responded to the area of the 8700 block of Downsville Pike for a single vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Volkswagen Sedan being operated by Mohamed A. Majeed, 49, of Fairplay, MD was traveling north on MD632 (Downsville Pike) just south of Sabine Lane when he struck a pedestrian who was walking East across the travel portion of the roadway. The pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene by members of Williamsport Fire/EMS, was identified as Elinor S. McLeod, 81, of Williamsport, MD. Further investigation revealed that Majeed was unable to avoid striking McLeod who was walking her dog across the roadway and traveled into the path of his vehicle. Immediately following the collision, Majeed stopped his vehicle, called 911 and remained at the scene.
Speed or negligence is not believed to be a factor in this collision. It was also determined that Majeed was not under the influence of any alcohol or drugs and no charges are being pursued at this time.
Members from the Maryland State Police Crash Team also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation and complete a full collision reconstruction of the incident.
