Petition Underway to Put Same-sex Marriage to Referendum

February 27th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

With the House and Senate voting to approve same sex marriage legislation by a collective total of just seven votes- Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley is expected to sign the bill sometime this week. Already however efforts are underway to petition the issue to be placed on a referendum ballot for the voters to decide in the fall. Senate Minority Leader E.J. Pipkin acknowledged that supporters had the votes, but said ultimately, voters will have the final say on the bill. He also warned supporters of the bill not to try to block a referendum vote.
