Piedmont Man Arrested Near Frostburg On Numerous Charges

On 03/16/2018 at approximately 10:17pm a deputy with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was on routine patrol in the area of Interstate 68 west at the Frostburg exit when he observed an Oldsmobile Alero that had no visible registration plate. The deputy followed the vehicle onto south bound Route 36 and initiated a traffic stop on Route 36 near Cabin Run Road. The Deputy identified the driver of the vehicle as 32 year old Cody Ray Broadwater of Piedmont, West Virginia.

Pursuant to the investigation the deputy learned that Broadwater was wanted on two District Court of Maryland Bench Warrants and found that the vehicle was unregistered, uninsured and the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license. After submitting to field sobriety tests Broadwater was then taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and a search of the vehicle was conducted incident to arrest. The search of the vehicle yielded an amount of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.  Broadwater was transported to District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Upon completion of the evaluation Broadwater was taken before the District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance.

In addition to the bench warrants, Broadwater was charged with the following:

Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance Not Marijuana

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Driving Without a License

Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle

Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle

Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway

Driving While Impaired by Drugs

Driving Vehicle While Impaired by a Controlled Dangerous Substance

Broadwater was held in lieu of $3,000.00 bond and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center.
