Pilot Drug Court Program Showing Encouraging Results

A pilot drug court program, launched in December 2015 by Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Getty offers local heroin and opioid addicts a route to treatment- and the early returns have been encouraging. Drug court is a community based effort to keep addicts out of the legal system by treating their addictions. Headed by a circuit court judge with a team of prosecutors, health officials and social workers, a drug court focuses on treating non-violent criminal offenders suffering from alcohol and substance abuse problems in order to keep drug-related crime down. State's Attorney Michael Twigg said while he was slow to embrace the drug court concept, he has since become a big believer in the program…
