Pirates close to signing free agent shortstop

December 19th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

After the Toronto Blue Jays released veteran shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, some teams immediately began to express interest in the borderline-free union.

While the Chicago Cubs were one of the first teams to consider signing him, the Pittsburgh Pirates now appear to be the most likely to do so.

The Pirates are in need of a shortstop after the departure of Jordy Mercer via free agency. However, they had previously viewed Tulowitzki as a backup option. It seems they've quickly changed their minds, perhaps because they felt the asking prices for free agents like Freddy Galvis and trade targets like Nick Ahmed were too high.
