Police apprehend two fugitives in LaVale

On Tuesday the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip that 2 people with Active Arrest Warrants were staying in a residence in Lower LaVale.  Sherry James and her son Harold “Baby Joey” James were both wanted on numerous Arrest Warrants by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Cumberland City Police.  Sherry James had been avoiding Law Enforcement for 8 months on Theft Charges. Deputies responded to the residence and made contact with the owner who denied that Sherry or Harold James were in the residence.  Deputies then set up surveillance of the residence.  A short time later Harold James was seen exiting the rear of the residence attempting to flee the area.  Harold James was taken into Custody without Incident.  Once Harold James was in custody, Sherry James exited the residence and surrendered to Deputies.


Sherry James was served with 2 District Court Warrants, 1 for Failure to Appear on a Forgery Charge, and 1 for 4 counts of Theft.  Sherry was taken before a District Court Commissioner and held of $5,500 bond.


Harold James was served with 1 Circuit Court Warrant for Failure to Appear for a Jury Trial for Theft, and 2 District Court Warrants for Failure to Appear on a Theft Charge, and Violation of Probation on a Theft Charge.  Harold was taken before a District Court Commissioner and held on $6,000 bond.  He held without bond for his Circuit Court Warrant.


Both were transported to the Allegany County Detention Center to await bond review at District and Circuit Court.


Including the 5 Warrants served on the James’, The Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit served a total of 12 Arrest Warrants on April 19th, 2016.
