On Wednesday at approximately 11:23 p.m. officers were called to a Pine Avenue residence for a report of an assault.  Officers arrived and learned that a juvenile male was walking in the area of Emily Street when he was jumped by two males.  The juvenile was struck in the head with a handgun causing an injury which required medical treatment.  A Cumberland Fire Department Ambulance responded and transported the victim to the hospital for treatment. 

Officers quickly developed two suspects and started to canvass the area.  Officers worked throughout the night and next day determining the location of the suspects.  Officers learned that one of the suspects was in a residence on N. Central Avenue off of Maryland Avenue.

  A search and seizure warrant was obtained with the assistance of C3I Investigations for the residence.  An entry was made by the Cumberland Emergency Response Team (CERT).  The suspect Jason Leonard Crawford Jr. was located on the second floor of the residence along with several other subjects.  

During the execution of the warrant numerous weapons and drugs were observed in plain view.  The residence was secured and a second warrant was obtained to search the residence for drugs and related items.  Crawford was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for the robbery, which occurred on Emily Street, and a Circuit Court pick-up order for failing to appear. 

The officers searched the residence after the second warrant was signed.  During the search a large quantity of suspected cocaine and suspected marijuana was located inside the residence.  Also located inside the residence was a large sum of US currency.  As a result of the drugs and regulated firearms located inside the residence officers arrested two additional subjects who were found in the residence at the time the warrant was executed.

Shawn Stephen Hamlette and Chaziah Ladrell Rhodes were taken into custody and transported to Police Headquarters.  Hamlette was also found to be wanted out of Allegany County, MD for two failures to appear and a warrant out of Washington County, MD for burglary and firearm violations.  All three subjects were taken before the District Court Commissioner where they were all held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Charges: Armed robbery, Conspiracy to commit armed robbery, 2^nd degree assault, Handgun on person, Firearm used in the commission of a crime of violence, and Failure to appear

 

 

 

Shawn Stephen Hamlette, age 20 of Cumberland, MD

Charges: Possession not marijuana, Possession with intent to distribute (x2), Drug trafficking with firearm (x2), Possession of firearm being under 21 (x2)

 

 

 

Chaziah Ladrell Rhodes, age 17 (Charged as an adult) of Cumberland, MD

Charges: Possession not marijuana, Possession with intent to distribute (x2), Drug trafficking with firearm (x2), Possession of firearm being under 21 (x2)
