Cumberland Police Make Burglary & Assault Arrests

On 1/6/16 at approx. 0845hrs officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to an East First Street residence for a report of a burglary.  Officers arrived and made contact with the victim.  The victim reported that a female subject entered the residence through the front door at which time the children inside the residence began to scream.  The female subject left the residence heading towards Virginia Avenue.  The officers were able to locate a female subject matching the clothing description given by the victim.  The officers stopped the suspect and she admitted to being in the East First Street area.  The victim was brought to the area where the suspect was stopped for identification purposes.  The victim positively identified the suspect as the same subject who entered the victim’s home. Jessica Marie Metty was taken into custody without incident.  She was transported to Police Headquarters for processing.  Metty was later taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was held on $1,000.00 bond.

Charges: 4th Degree burglary and Disturbance of the peace

On 1/7/16 at approx. 1429hrs officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of Fairview Avenue for a report of a disturbance.  Upon the officers arrival they witnessed a female subject yelling in the middle of the street.  The same female subject then pushed another female subject in front of the officers.  The officers attempted to interview both subjects about what occurred prior to their arrival.  The same female subject who was later identified as Batricia Lynn Nave continued to yell and continued to cause a disturbance.  Officers advised Nave that she was under arrest and attempted to place her in hand restraints.  Nave refused to cooperate with officers and attempted to pull away and leave the area.  Officers were able to restrain Nave and gain control.  Nave throughout the entire incident continued to yell continuing the public disturbance.  Nave was transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters for processing.  Nave was later taken before the District Court Commissioner where she was released on her personal recognizance.

Charges: 2nd Degree assault, Disorderly conduct, Resisting arrest, Fail to obey, and Disturbance of the peace

Criminal Summons served:

Derek Christain Thomas, age 25 of Cumberland, MD

Charge: Theft less than $1,000.00

Sherry Lynn Johnson, age 44 of Cumberland, MD

Charges: Possession of CDS not marijuana, Failure to have controlled prescription medication in a prescription bottle without label.
