March 26th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

On Tuesday March 25, 2014, at 1:24 pm, a Cumberland City Police Officer located a suspicious male juvenile in the area of a business on Market Street.  As the officer approached him, the juvenile fled from the officer climbed on top of the Market Street bridge.  Based on the comments and actions made by the juvenile, the officer determined that the juvenile was going to jump off the bridge into Wills Creek.  The officer maintained communication with the juvenile and upon doing so, he was able to situate himself closer to where the juvenile was standing.  As the officer continued to talk, he noticed that the 14 year old juvenile looked away from the officer for a brief moment.  At this time the officer lunged at the juvenile; wrapped his arms around him and pulled him from the bridge onto safe ground.  The juvenile continued to struggle and resist the officer before being placed in custody.  The juvenile was later released to the custody of his parents pending an adjudication hearing by the Department of Juvenile Justice.  The juvenile, a Cumberland resident, will be charged with Child in Need of Supervision, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.
