Criminal Summons Served

On Thursday March 28, 2014, Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons on Ali Shabazz, age 64 of Frostburg, Maryland.  On March 13, 2014, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the Parkview Liquor Store located at 82 Greene Street, for a theft complaint.  During an investigation into the matter officers learned from Mr. Shabazz that while he was inside the liquor store someone entered his vehicle and stole several personal items.  Shabazz informed the officers that he wanted to report the crime so he could turn the incident into his insurance company.  Mr. Shabazz was issued the police report he requested for his insurance company and left the area.   Officers handling the complaint were able to make contact with a store employee at the liquor store to obtain video footage of the incident.  During a review of the video footage officers observed Mr. Shabazz enter the lot and exit his vehicle.  Shortly after he exited his vehicle he appeared to be talking on his cell phone and stayed near his vehicle.  Moments later, Mr. Shabazz is seen talking with an employee of the store in the parking lot.  Several minutes later, officers arrived on the scene.  Officers were able to confirm from the video footage that at no time did anyone get into Mr. Shabazz's vehicle while it was parked in the lot.  This evidence contradicted what Mr. Shabazz reported to the officers.   As a result of this incident charges were applied for at District Court.  Mr. Shabazz was served with the criminal summons and released pending his trial date in District Court.
