Police Log – 05/29/15

Disorderly/Alcohol Arrest

    On 05/27/2015 at approximately 9:30 p.m. Cumberland City Police Officers were dispatched to the area of the Gulf War Memorial near Union Street in reference to a reported disturbance and disorderly conduct complaint.  Upon arrival to the scene officers located numerous subjects in the area and learned that there had actually been an assault occur prior to their arrival.  Officers began an investigation into the assault and one subject in the area continued to create a disturbance and was asked to leave the area, and not to create any further problems, several times.  The suspect later identified as Yolanda Marie Bauman, 48, of Cumberland continued to create disturbances and interfere with the assault investigation even after several requests from officers to stop and leave the area.  As a result Bauman was placed under arrest and charged with the following:

Disorderly conduct – 1 count

Disturbing the peace – 1 count

Failure to obey a lawful order of police – 1 count

Obstructing and hindering police – 1 count

Open container of alcohol in public place – 1 count

Bauman was subsequently transported to the Allegany County District Court for an initial appearance.  She was later released on her own recognizance pending trial.

 

 

Domestic Assault Arrest

On 05/28/2015 at approximately 1:20 a.m., Cumberland City Police Officers were dispatched to a Greene Street residence for a report of a domestic assault in progress.  Upon arrival to the residence officers could hear a disturbance inside the residence as they approached.  Once on the property, officers could see inside the residence and observed the victim in this case being assaulted.  Officers were able to make it inside the residence to prevent any further assault.  Once inside officers interviewed the victim and suspect in this case.  As a result of this investigation Dawn Louise Burkett, 44, of Cumberland was placed under arrest.  Burkett was transported to Cumberland City Police Headquarters where she was charged with the following:

Assault 2nd Degree – 1 count

Burkett was transported to the Allegany County District Court for a bond hearing where she was released on her own recognizance pending trial.

 

 

 M/V Crash/DUI Arrest

On 05/28/2015 at approximately 4:00 a.m., Cumberland City Police Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of N. Centre Street in reference to a reported Hit and Run motor vehicle crash that had just occurred.  Officers arrived in the area immediately following the report and found two parked vehicles with heavy damage and another vehicle disabled in the middle of the street.  Witnesses in the area advised that the suspect driver in this case was confronted by a witness when he allegedly was trying to move his vehicle and leave the scene.  The suspect’s vehicle was heavily damaged and was immobile.  Once confronted by witnesses the suspect allegedly fled the area on foot.  Witnesses gave officers a detailed description of the suspect and officers searched the immediate area.  Shortly afterward officers located the suspect who matched the description in the 400 block of N. Mechanic Street.  As a result of this investigation Pedro Bravo, 28, of Cumberland was placed under arrest and charged with the following:

Negligent driving charges

Hit and run charges

DUI related charges

Bravo was processed for the above charges and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court.

 

 

Disorderly Conduct/Alcohol Violation Arrest

On 05/28/2015 at approximately 7:20 p.m., Cumberland City Police officers were called to the area of E. Union Street at Gulf War Memorial Drive in reference to a subject consuming alcohol and acting in a disorderly manner.  Officers arrived and located a suspect identified by several witnesses in the area.  According to witnesses, the suspect had allegedly been consuming alcohol on Union Street, littering, and was also observed urinating on the sidewalk in plain view of patrons in the nearby businesses.  Officers contacted suspect Gary Lee Smith, 36, of Cumberland, and conducted an investigation into this incident.  As a result, Smith was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with the following:

Disorderly Conduct – 1 count

Open Container of Alcohol in Public Place – 1 count

Smith was processed for the above charges and released pending trial in the Allegany County District Court.

 

 

Trespassing Arrest

On 05/28/2015 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Cumberland City Police officers were called to the area of Harrison Street in reference to a request from Amtrak employees for assistance with escorting a disorderly subject from a passenger train.  Officers arrived on the scene and contacted employees on the train who requested that Tiffany R. Kirchner, 33, of Greenbelt Maryland be escorted from the train due to allegedly causing a disturbance and causing problems with employees.  Officers along with train employees escorted Kirchner from the train, at which time she allegedly began causing a disturbance on Harrison Street in view of patrons in nearby businesses.  Kirchner was asked by officers to leave the area and not cause any further disturbances.  Kirchner refused to comply with officers repeated requests and was ultimately placed under arrest.  Kirchner was transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters where she was charged with the following:

Disorderly Conduct – 1 count

Kirchner was processed for the charges and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court.
