Police Log – 06-25-15

    On 06/24/2015 Cumberland City Police officers served two outstanding arrest warrants on a Cumberland man for charges stemming from two separate incidents in May and June 2015.  James Glenn Porter, 37, was charged on the first warrant for allegedly illegally entering a Columbia Street residence in May 2015 and causing a disturbance.  The second warrant charges Porter with allegedly causing a disturbance and assaulting an individual while walking on Queen City Drive in early June.  Porter was arrested and is charged with the following:

Warrant #1:  Burglary 4th Degree, Disturbing the Peace, Trespass: Private Property.

Warrant #2:  Assault 2nd Degree, Disturbing the Peace.

Porter was processed for the two warrants and transported to the Allegany County District Court for an initial appearance.  Porter was released on his own recognizance pending trial.

 

DUI – CDS Arrest

    On 06/24/2015 Cumberland City Police officers arrested a New Creek WV man on traffic and criminal charges after a motor vehicle crash on Goethe Street in Cumberland.  Officers were dispatched to Goethe Street just before 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday for a report of a vehicle backing into a parked car while attempting to park on Goethe Street.  Officers arrived on the scene and contacted the driver identified as Cort William Anderson, 30, of New Creek.  Upon conducting an investigation into the accident, officers found reason to believe that Anderson was impaired while driving.  As a result, Anderson was placed under arrest for DUI, and a quantity of CDS was located on his person.  Anderson was transported to the Cumberland City Police headquarters where he was processed.  During processing Anderson allegedly attempted to escape custody by manipulating his restraints.  As a result of this incident Anderson was charged with the following:

Driving vehicle so far impaired by drug cannot drive safely – 1 count

Driving vehicle while impaired by controlled dangerous substance – 1 count

Driving motor vehicle on highway without required license – 1 count

Failure to control vehicle speed to avoid a collision – 1 count

Unsafe backing of motor vehicle 1 – count

CDS: Possession – Not Marijuana – 1 count

Attempted Escape – Second Degree – 1 count

Anderson was taken before a District Court commissioner for an initial appearance.  Anderson was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a $3000.00 bond.
