Theft Arrest

On July 7, 2015 at approximately 6:20 PM, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 436 Pine Avenue for a reported disturbance and possible assault.  During an investigation into the matter officers learned from a witness that a male and female were arguing inside a white Jeep.   The vehicle left the area prior to the arrival of the officers.  Officers at the time of the complaint were unable to locate the Jeep or the parties involved.

 

On July 7, 2015 at approximately 6:40 PM, officers were dispatched to 319 Avirett Avenue for a possible domestic assault inside the same white Jeep.  Officers were able to locate the Jeep on Greene Street and also located the female and the male who were involved in both incidents.  While officers were speaking with the female driver, she informed the officers that her passenger, Marley Zaire Powell was with her when they arrived at the Pine Avenue address.   After the she exited the vehicle, Powell remained in the passenger side seat.  Officers were informed by the female that she observed Powell reaching inside her purse that was in the back seat.  When she retrieved her purse, she noticed $170 missing.  An argument over the missing currency ensued that led to the two leaving the area.  Powell who was also contacted by police was found to be in possession of $170.  The currency was confiscated by officers and Powell was placed under arrest.  Powell was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Powell was later released after being issued a criminal citation for theft.  Additional charges are pending in this matter as a result of an assault that took place during this incident.
