Police Log – 07/23/14

Theft

On 07/22/14 Officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business located in the 700blk of Park St in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival Officer’s contacted store employees who advised that they observed a male subject take several items and attempt to exit the store without paying for the items. The subject was contacted and identified as 25 year old Chris Diehl of Cumberland. Diehl was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept for processing and charges. Diehl was charged with one count of Theft and released on a Criminal Citation pending trial in District Court.

 

Bench Warrant Served

On 07/22/14 the Cumberland Police Department served a Bench Warrant on 22 year old Nicholas Kneisley of Cumberland. The Arrest Warrant stems from Kneisley Violating conditions of Probation on an original charge of malicious burning. Kneisley was taken for an Initial Appearance at District Court where he was held on a $7,500 bail. Kneisley was then transported to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.

 

Hit and Run

On 07/22/14 the Cumberland Police Dept took a report of a hit and run that occurred in the 600 block of Kelly Rd. The victim advised that an unknown vehicle struck the driver side rear of their vehicle, a 2013 Nissan Truck. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Dept at 301-777-1600.

 

CDS

On 07/22/14 at 8;14pm an Officer on patrol with the Cumberland Police Department observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit. The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle for the traffic violation and made contact with the operator. Upon speaking with the operator the Officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search was then conducted with the Officer locating a small quantity of marijuana. As a result, 44 year old Eric Leatherman of Cumberland was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department where he was issued a Criminal Citation for possession of marijuana under 10 grams and released pending trial in District Court.
