Busy Day for City Police

At approx. 2124hrs an officer from the Cumberland Police Department affected a traffic stop on a vehicle on Industrial Boulevard for operating without headlights.  The officer made contact with the operator and retrieved the information needed for the stop.  The officer also requested a canine to the scene to conduct a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle.  The canine officer arrived and a positive alert to the presence of the odor of drugs was given.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and during that search a package of heroin was located in the rear of the vehicle near Mark Feodor Smith Sr.  Smith was taken into custody without incident. The operator was issued a warning for the traffic violation and Smith was transported to Police Headquarters for processing.  Smith was later taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released pending trial in District Court.

Officers from the Cumberland Police Department located Demond Arthur Scott at a residence on Bedford Street.  The officer was aware of an outstanding warrant for Scott.  The officer requested additional units as Scott entered a residence in an attempt to hide from officers.  The officers made contact with the owner of the residence and was allowed to enter where they located Scott taking him into custody without incident.  Scott was processed and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  Scott was held on a bond of $25,000.00 at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Charge: Violation of Probation

 

Officers from the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Donald Burton Ware at his residence.  Ware was arrested stemming from 8/16/16 incident where he was accused of entering a residence on Charles Street and assaulting the male subject who lives there.  Ware was processed and taken before a District Court Commissioner.  Ware posted a $2,500.00 bond before being released from custody pending a trial in District Court.
