Police Log 09-02-14

On September 1, 2014 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to Martin's Market located at 739 Park Street for an assault in progress.  Upon the officers arrival they made contact with the store manager.  Officers were advised by the manager that he observed a male subject later identified as, Phillip Glenn Potter placing merchandise inside a bag.  After placing the items inside the bag, Potter walked out of the store without paying for any of the items.  Potter was stopped by store management and confronted about the stolen items.  After being confronted by the store manager, Potter punched the manager in the chest.  Potter attempted to flee when he was confronted by a concerned citizen.  Potter grabbed the subject by his neck and then grabbed his gold necklace causing it to break.  Potter was located by officers and placed under arrest.  Potter was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Potter was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  Potter was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.

Arrested: Phillip Glenn Potter                                             Age: 47 of Cresaptown, Maryland

Charges: 2 counts of Second Degree Assault, Destruction of Property and Theft.

 

Arrest Warrant Served

On September 1, 2014 Cumberland City Police served an arrest warrant on Benjamin James Covalt, age 29 of Cumberland, Maryland.  The warrant was issued after a private citizen filed charges alleging Covalt stole her phone.  Covalt was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  Covalt was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
