On Thursday September 3, 2015 shortly before midnight, Cumberland City Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of E. Industrial Boulevard at Virginia Avenue in reference to a reported M/V Accident. Cumberland Fire and Ambulance also responded to this incident. Upon arrival to the scene officers located three vehicles involved in this accident and began an investigation. The investigation revealed that the at fault vehicle had initially struck another vehicle near the Cumberland Outdoor Club while traveling in the eastbound lanes. The at fault vehicle did not stop at this accident and continued eastbound on Industrial Boulevard.
The at fault vehicle continued east on Industrial Boulevard to the intersection of Virginia Avenue and struck a second vehicle in the rear which was stopped for a red signal at that intersection.
Cumberland Ambulance crews treated minor injuries at the accident scene and no one was transported to the hospital. The intersection at Virginia Avenue was closed for approximately 45 minutes due to this accident.
At the conclusion of this investigation Cumberland Police arrested the at fault driver identified as Tyler Cage, 21, of Cumberland. Cage was transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters where he was charged with the following:
Failure to control vehicle speed on highway to avoid collision
Driving vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
Driving while impaired by alcohol
Reckless Driving
Negligent Driving
Failure to stop after accident involving damage to attended vehicle
Failure to return and remain at the scene of an accident
Failure to report accident to police
Failure of vehicle driver to provide insurance information
Cage was processed and released on his own recognizance pending trial at the Allegany County District Court.
Criminal Summons Service
On 09/03/2015 Cumberland City Police officers served a criminal summons on a Cumberland man for charges of assault. The charges stem from a private citizen complaint filed at District Court. The victim in this case filed court documents alleging that they were assaulted by Christopher Balderson, 33, of Cumberland on 08/20/2015 near a Virginia Avenue business. As a result of this application for charges Balderson was charged with the following:
Assault 2nd Degree – 1 count
Balderson was issued paperwork and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court.a
