Police Log – 09-28-15

On Sunday, September 27, 2015 Cumberland Police Officers responded to a Springdale Street residence for a report of an assault with a knife.  Upon their Officers separated all parties involved.  According to witnesses several subjects arrived at the residence demanding to speak with one of the residents.  An altercation then began with a resident and a subject at the door.  An assault took place and during this time one of the suspects, Mickael Thornton, stated he would stab one of the residents due to the assault.  The resident was able to push the suspect out of the residence.  Mickael Thornton remained at the residence and again knocked on the door in an attempt to contact a resident.  The victim opened the door and stated Thornton was allegedly holding a knife.  Thornton then allegedly began swinging the knife in a slashing and stabbing motion toward the victim.  The victim was able to get away from Thornton by pushing him out the door.  A knife was located at the scene.  Thornton was placed under arrest and was transported to Police Headquarters.  He was later taken before the District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on $7,000 bond.

Charges: Assault:First Degree, Assault:Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Dangerous weapon with intent to injure and Disorderly Conduct

 

Theft Arrest

On September 27, 2015 Cumberland Police Officers responded a Park Street business for a report of a theft.  Upon contacting a representative of the business Officers were advised the suspect, James Leyland, was observed concealing two items in his pocket prior to leaving the store.  The suspect did not pay for the items.  The items were then located in Leyland’s pocket.   James Leyland was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters.  He was issued a criminal citation, processed and released pending trial.
