Police make assault arrests

On 11/16/15 at approximately 10:30 a.m. a Cumberland police officer observed a subject who was currently wanted on an active arrest warrant walking on Frederick Street.  While placing the arrested subject in his police vehicle the officer was approached by Bernice Amber Crawford, 18 Y/O.  Crawford began yelling and cursing at the officer, who advised her several times to step away and lower her voice.  Crawford continued to yell at the officer and was placed under arrest.  Crawford was transported to the Cumberland police station and charged with the following:

Disorderly Conduct – 1 count

Disturbing the Peace – 1 count

Failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order – 1 count 

Crawford was processed on the above charges and released on a criminal citations pending trial in district court.

Warrant Arrest

On 11/16/15 during the morning hours a Cumberland police officer observed a subject who was currently wanted on an outstanding arrest walking on Frederick Street.  The officer placed Demond Arthur Scott, 28 under arrest.  Scott was transported to the Cumberland police station and processing on the following warrant:

Violation of Probation on a burglary charge

Scott was processed on the above warrant and taken before a commissioner at the Allegany County District Court for a preliminary hearing.  Scott was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where he was held on a $157.00 bond.

Assault Arrest

On 11/16/15 during the afternoon hours officers from the Cumberland police department responded to Queen City Drive for a report of an assault in progress.

Once on the scene officers initiated an investigation and learned that Byron Nathan Morrison, 40 was in an argument with two subjects.  During the argument, Morrison reportedly pulled a knife from his pocket and threatened one of subjects with the knife.  Morrison was located in the area and was placed under arrest without incident.  Morrison was transported to the Cumberland police station and processing on the following charges:

Attempted First Degree Assault – 1 count

Second Degree Assault – 1 count

Deadly Weapon Intent to Injure – 1 count

Disorderly Conduct – 1 count

Morrison was processed for the above listed charges and taken to the Allegany County District Court for a preliminary hearing before a court commissioner.  Morrison was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center and held on a $40,000.00 bond.
