Police make arrest in Burglary attempt

On Friday afternoon  at 1:26 pm, the Cumberland Police responded to the 100 block of Reynolds Street for burglary in progress.  Upon arrival units on the scene located a broken window and broken door lock.  Officers immediately secured the area and began to conduct an interior search.  While searching the residence a subject identified as, Wayne Sorrells, age 37, of Cumberland exited an exterior door.  Officers detained Sorrells, and continued clearing the residence but found no other occupants inside.  Officers on the scene then began to investigate the burglary complaint further. Officers found that Sorrells was not an occupant of the residence and did not have permission to be inside.  Officer further found that Sorrells had removed several items from the property.  Subsequently, Sorrells was arrested and charged with First Degree Burglary, Fourth Degree Burglary, and three counts of Theft Under $100. Sorrells was later transported to District Court for his Initial Appearance and remanded Allegany County Detention Center on $ 5,000 bond.
