Police Make Burglary Arrest

Late Friday night officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence located in the 600blk of Bedford St in reference to a possible breaking and entering in progress. Upon arrival Officers contacted a witness who advised that nobody should have been in the residence at this time and they observed an interior light turn on. Officers established a perimeter around the residence and were able to learn that there was a subject inside. Contact was made with the subject who complied with officer’s orders to come outside. At this time officers placed 22 year old Corey Smith under arrest. It was further learned that Smith had an active court order preventing him from being at or inside this residence. Smith was transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was charged with Fourth Degree Burglary, Violating a Court Order, and Resisting Arrest. Smith was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $5,000 bail pending his next court appearance.

On Friday,  the Cumberland City Police Department responded to a residence on New Hampshire Avenue for a reported Breaking and Entering in progress.  When the officers arrived, they observed a male in the residence who was identified as Jason Roy Moore.  After making contact with Moore, officers determined that he did not have the owner’s permission to be in the house.  Moore was arrested and transported to the Cumberland City Police Station for processing.  He was then taken before the District Court Commissioner and released on his own personal recognizance pending trial.
