Police Pursue Suspect In Stolen Vehicle

December 12th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

On 12.11.2018 at approximately 10:00 PM Deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office were made aware of the sighting of a stolen vehicle that was reported to the Maryland State Police earlier in the evening. The vehicle was seen at a Frostburg business and had left the area and traveled towards Interstate 68. Deputies located the stolen vehicle traveling E/B into Cumberland City.

A deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle failed to yield. The vehicle exited onto Johnson Street in Cumberland and re-entered I-68 E/B. The deputy continued the attempt to stop the vehicle as it traveled E/B at a high rate of speed.

Due to the extremely light traffic and dry road conditions deputies continued to pursue in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The pursuit was joined by units from the Maryland State Police as it traversed Allegany County. Upon nearing Washington County the Maryland State Police units disengaged from the pursuit and the lead Deputy was assisted by a Hancock City Police unit who  deployed stop sticks and flattened one tire on the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle continued traveling onto I70 and then South onto Rt. 522. The pursuit entered into West Virginia where the pursuit was taken over by West Virginia units. The vehicle then continued into Berkeley Springs where numerous units from the West Virginia State Police, Morgan County Sheriff's Office and the Allegany County Sheriff's Office were able to bring the pursuit to an end when the suspect struck a Morgan County Sheriff's cruiser at a low speed on a side road in Berkeley Springs.

The driver, 25 year old Ronald Eugene Davis Jr. of Westernport, MD, was taken into custody by WV Law Enforcement for numerous violations that occurred in WV as well as being in possession of the stolen motor vehicle.

Charges were filed by the Allegany County Sheriff's Office and, upon the issuance of a warrant, shall be lodged as a detainer until such time that Davis is extradited back to Allegany County.

Dispatchers from the Allegany County Joint Communications Center performed an exceptional job coordinating units, relaying information and patching radio channels together to allow all the agencies involved to directly communicate with one another.

There were no injuries reported during the incident.
