Possible Federal Money Could Fund Stalled Canal Re-watering Project

After momentum stalled on the project more than 20 years ago- there is re-newed interest in a proposal that could lead to a rewatering of Cumberland’s C&O Canal attraction.  Last week the city council voted to take action that could clear the way for an investment of federal money in the project.  The project was the focus of a recent meeting hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and attended by representatives from senators Cardin and Van Hollen and congressman Trone along with Mayor Ray Morriss and other stake holders. After much discussion at that session, it was determined strong support for the project remains.     Sounds like a great idea. Use some of the Federal money for a fence along the camel, security so people won’t jump into the canal, and for those at night who want to out fox the security and jump fence into the canal. This is all in the reality of possibility.
