Potential Locations Announced for Skate Park in City

December 21st, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland City Council, on Tuesday, expressed support for  the continued planning of a proposed skateboard park. During the final council meeting of the year,  city planner David Umling provided details of the project that he been working on with the Cumberland Bicycle Advisory Committee. Although four potential sites were identified initially, that list has been narrowed to just two: a viaduct site is situated between North Mechanic and North Centre streets on Cumberland’s North End, and Springdale Park at the corner of West Third Street and Springdale Street in South End. The project is in the very preliminary stages at this point with no official designs or funding in place. Umling said that the biggest problems facing municipalities when it comes to skateboard parks is liability. He said there are a number of measures the city could take to help avoid potential lawsuits- but there are no guarentees.
