All children of kindergarten age (5 years old by September 1st) must, by law, be registered for school. If a parent/guardian has not yet registered their child in his/her home school, please contact the school to make an appointment to complete registration. Even for the remote learning option, children must be registered to participate.
ALL parents of students entering any pre-k or kindergarten public school program must have all required documents (proof of residence, birth certificate, etc.) into the school for registration to be complete. Please contact the school to make an appointment to take the required documents to the school and finalize the registration process.
The following schools will offer Pre-k 3-year-old programs (half-day sessions with no transportation provided): Beall Elementary, Cash Valley Elementary, John Humbird Elementary, and South Penn Elementary.
The following schools will offer a full day Pre-k 4-year-old program: Flintstone Elementary, George’s Creek Elementary, South Penn Elementary, and Westernport Elementary. All other schools will continue to offer half-day Pre-k 4-year-old programs.
If a parent/guardian has already registered online and indicated a preference to attend a full day in one of the above schools, a staff member from the school will contact with you. If a parent/guardian has not completed a registration, please use the electronic form found on the school system’s website, www.acpsmd.org, and take the required documents to the school by appointment OR by calling the school to make an appointment to register your child.
Families interested in the Partial Chinese Immersion Program for kindergarten should contact West Side Elementary School at 301-724-0340.

Register to stay home and be taught by your parents. I don’t see the phone companies upgrading phone lines to allow high speed internet , cell coverage aren’t available where I live and BOE has no plans to do anything. Yeah I’ll teach my kids again this year after I get home from working 10 hour days 6 days a week. No I don’t sit at home and collect free money and then protest! Give me the packets again this year and I’ll do your job for you. Thanks.

The BOE must have plastic shields for every pre-k-k student to enclose their desk. They need a desk, they can no longer use tables. These students must have face shields, and contact tracing must be established.

ACPS has done a stellar job supporting our kids during the worst pandemic in over a century. What will the long term affects be of an asymptomatic child who has COVID? Will they develop severe autoimmune diseases in adulthood? Will the BOE take the temperature of EVERY person who enters every building? Do they have Contact Tracing plans of action ready? Will parents make sure that they teach children how to wear their masks? Will the ACPS be legally responsible for COVID exposures due to any negligence resulting from a failure to adequately protect children and teachers? Has ACPS ensured that PRE K AND K students have their own individual kids center toys and experiential learning items- for each student? Has ACPS secured individual classrooms for no more than 10 students, PRE K-K that will accommodate social distancing, sufficient ventilation, hand-washing stations in the halls, as restrooms need to maintain social distancing? Has ACPS hired many, many more teachers necessary to meet all CDC guidance standards? Perhaps if we ask the hard questions we will see that we need to adapt to the virus as it will not adapt to us. It is far too dangerous to reopen our schools given the
dangers COVID presents to our children and teachers. I trust the teachers of ACPS to continue the safest way to adapt to this horrific virus, virtual learning. To do otherwise is not only foolish, but dangerous. Given the virulent nature of this highly transmissible disease, failure to do what ALL other Western Maryland counties are doing-digital learning, will mean that UPMC needs to secure more ventilators for people of every age resulting from the reckless BOE.
