President Trump insisted on Tuesday that he still intends to construct a physical wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, despite telling reporters hours earlier that he was open to delaying funding for the barrier until September. The White House had previously demanded that Republican lawmakers include a down payment for the border wall in Congress’ upcoming spending bill, opening the door for Trump to tout progress on one of his signature campaign promises. But conservative reporters who participated late Monday in a sit-down with Trump said the president seemed willing to sign a spending bill that would exclude explicit funding for a border wall.
