Prison Racketeering & Drug-Trafficking Case Gives Glimpse Of Criminal Justice Corruption

A massive federal racketeering and drug-trafficking case at Maryland's biggest prison offers a glimpse at the deep roots of corruption that criminal justice experts say grips the U.S. corrections system- and has the head of the union representing correctional officers placing much of the blame on the Department of Corrections. Prosecutors unsealed the indictment of 80 guards, inmates and outsiders last week. It was the biggest federal case ever filed in Maryland.  AFSCME President Patrick Moran said state prisons across Maryland are woefully understaffed…
