Prominent businessman passes

A local prominant businessman, Raymond Henry Lapp Jr., passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland. He was born on Feb. 15, 1927, in Cumberland, the son of the late Raymond Henry Lapp Sr. and the late Edna (Rice) Lapp. Lapp attended Fort Hill High School, where he played football. He forfeited college football scholarship to enlist in the Navy and fight for his country in the Pacific Arena during World War II. He was one of the few remaining veterans of that war. After returning home from the war, he joined his father in the fledging family business, R.H. Lapp & Sons Plumbing and Heating. Visitation will be held at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Sunday, March 11, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 12, at 11 a.m. in the LaVale United Methodist Church. Visitors are welcome there from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be held in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
