Prominent area physician passes

Dr. Jose Luis Valdes, from the Dominican Republic, died on the morning of November 21, 2015 in Cumberland Maryland, where he spent most of his life.  Valdes was born on December 11, 1927 in the Dominican Republic. He came to the United States in 1957, ultimately settling in Cumberland, Maryland, where he built his home and began his family life and practice as an esteemed urologist.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Mrs. Olga Estruch-Valdes, their three daughters, Olguita, Laura, Joselyn, and three sons in law, James Skidmore, Arne Borsum, Alex Branger, and their cherished granddaughters, Isabel and Angelica. Besides these he is survived by his sister Mireya Singh, and his brother Dr. Americo Valdes and his wife Joan, and their five children. Also surviving him are his sisters in law, Dr. Sonia Estruch and Dr. Myrna Estruch, both whom he loved and venerated deeply. Added to these are many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.   

Dr. Valdes' body was cremated.  A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Mountains St. Patrick Catholic Church, 201 N Centre St, Cumberland, MD, Tuesday, November 24th at 1:00 P.M..
