Proposal Outlines Replacement of Four West Side Bridges

In poor condition and failing to meet current standards, the future of four West Side bridges have been examined over the summer- and a recommendation was presented during Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council. The bridges in question are the vehicle bridges on Washington, Fayette and Cumberland streets and the railroad bridge on Greene Street. John DiFonzo, city engineer, and Amy Staud of the firm HDR Engineering of Baltimore presented the report. The recommendation outlined essentially does nothing for the Greene Street project; will see repairs to the bridges on Fayette and Washington Streets; and see the replacement of the Cumberland Street bridge. Estimated price tag is $3.7 million. Difonzo acknowledged that this is far from an ideal solution…
