Proposal To Modify Bay Restoration Fee Legislation

A proposed modification to the Bay Restoration Fee legislation tops the priority list of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council heading into a meeting today with the District One Delegation. Due to state mandates requiring construction of a new treatment facility to address combined sewer overflow (CSO)- the city is looking at a price tag of close to $30 million dollars. Passing that cost to the customers could result in a rate hike of fifty percent over 30 years to pay for the project. During a work session on Tuesday, City Administrator Jeff Rhodes identified dealing with the CSO issue a top priority- with the rational being that the new facility would not be necessary if not for the state mandate which is designed to clean up the Bay…
