WEEKLY COVID UPDATE: For the week of May 10-14, 2021, ACPS reports zero cases of COVID-19 in staff members, and six cases of COVID-19 in students who were within an Allegany County Public School. These individuals will complete the required isolation period before returning to their school buildings. Close contacts at school were identified in five of the cases. Those identified close contacts will complete a ten-day quarantine before returning to the school building. Parents were notified through the ACPS Blackboard notification system if there was a positive case in their child's school building or on their child's bus. In addition, there were four other positive student cases reported for students who were not within the school at the time of illness. These students will also complete a ten-day isolation period.

Yesterday the CDC announced that vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear masks or socially distance, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. All public schools in Maryland take their guidance from the Maryland Department of Health. Per the Maryland Department of Health, at this time there is no change in any of the masking or social distancing guidelines for schools. ACPS is expecting updated guidance in the near future; however we do not know what that guidance will contain. ACPS will release the updated guidance as soon as it is available.
