Pugh Sentenced To 3 Years In Federal Prison

February 27th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh to three years in federal prison for conspiracy and tax evasion, less than the nearly five years behind bars recommended by prosecutors. However, the sentence is to be followed by three years of probation.

Pugh was also ordered to pay $411,948 in restitution and forfeit $669,688 in cash and assets, including an Ellamont Road home purchased with proceeds from the scheme and $17,800 from her campaign account. She will not have to report to prison until April 13.

She did not react significantly as U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow read the sentence.

Pugh, 69, struck a plea deal with prosecutors in November 2019 on charges related to her sales of "Healthy Holly" children's books. She was indicted on 11 counts, with federal prosecutors saying that Pugh and two city employees double-sold the children's books or failed to deliver them to institutions for which they were purchased, including Baltimore City Public Schools.

Federal prosecutors took about 50 minutes to lay out their argument for Pugh to serve 57 months in federal prison for using a criminal book-selling scheme to "rig an election and cover it up."

Prosecutors said an investigation into Pugh began in February 2017 based on accusations she used her children's books as a ruse to raise money for her mayoral campaign and a new house.

The case never went to trial and the government's 90-page filing was loaded with details of what likely would have been used against Pugh in court.

Why not just give her a choice between a lethal injection or being burned at the stake?

Wonder how many years Trump will get? Pugh looks like a Sheetz Shoplifter by comparison. Using the same ratio he’s looking at life plus double life. He’ll have to have Don, Jr. serve it for him.

Just what do you suppose Trump should go to prison for? Lifting up employment, decreasing unemployment, especially among the African Americans, and more money in the pockets of working Americans by tax breaks I guess.
Guess you need to make an appointment with your Dr. but I don’t think they have any medication for TDS!

Good point Pat, by the way, there are medications for ” TDS ” they’re called psychotropic drugs. Donald Trump’s only crime was to show the world that an outsider can actually run for and win the presidency of the United States. That not only ” Pissed ” some people off, but it also means that Kevin, Jay, or anyone else can in fact do the same if they so choose, Right ? Catherine Pugh and Marilyn Mosby did everything within their power to create racial instability and an anti law enforcement atmosphere leading up to the three trials concerning the death of Freddie Gray. All while lining their pockets with book deals, fraudulent campaign contributions and pay for play schemes. I think three years is adequate for her crimes. I don’t think the forty month sentence handed down to Roger Stone for lying to the F.B.Lie. was all that fair, especially under the rather dubious circumstances with which his trial was conducted.
