Pugh Taking Leave Of Absence

April 1st, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Mayor Catherine Pugh is taking a leave of absence amid inquiries into her book sales, City Solicitor Andre Davis confirmed Monday.

In her absence, City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young would assume her duties as ex officio mayor

Rather than acknowledge the questions about her business dealings, her office cited her battle with pneumonia. Hours after her release from Johns Hopkins Hospital on Thursday, the mayor delivered remarks and offered documentation related to the printing and distribution of her books.

"At this time, with the Mayor’s health deteriorating, she feels as though she is unable to fulfill her obligations as Mayor of Baltimore City," reads a statement from her office. "To that end, Mayor Pugh will be taking an indefinite leave of absence to recuperate from this serious illness."

On Monday, it came to light that two insurers with city contracts had either purchased or supported the purchase of thousands of books from Pugh's LLC. Comptroller Peter Franchot called on Pugh to resign and Gov. Larry Hogan asked the state prosecutor to launch an investigation.

Agreed…the drain’s been opened but still clogged! This woman is a Full Blown Deceitful Politician that believed her insincere apology would be enough to justify her actions… She said ‘…sorry! ..error in Judgment..’ & all that spiel. What’s truly betweenthe lines is that she’s only truly sorry she got caught & not really sorry she tried to get away with it! I sincerely hope those in the East & Southern parts of MD actually start vetting & looking into who they vote into office bcuz their choices + gerrymandering is killing us All!
