With another request for additional funding combined with the anchor steam engine 1309 restoration now on the back burner- questions continue as to the fiscal and operational stability of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. While ridership has been strong in recent years, railroad officials acknowledge that the return of a steam engine could be two years or more away, and additional dollars from state and local government may need to increase.
