Races Of Interest Beginning To Take Shape

February 16th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The deadline for file to run for office is less than two weeks away- and some of the races of interest are starting to take shape. All four incumbent republicans in the District One Legislative Delegation are seeking new terms. State Senator George Edwards has filed for what he says will be his last run for office. To date he is unopposed. Delegate 1C Mike Mckay is facing a primary challenge with fellow republicans Nicole Alt Meyers and Jordan Lysczek in the race. Delegate 1A Wendell Beitzel is the lone republican for that seat, but democrat Michael Dreisbach has signed up. The same scenario for Delegate 1B representative Jason Buckel who is the lone republican on file- but democrat Penny Walker has entered. Rumors persist however that retired Maryland State Trooper James Pyles may opt to run for the 1B seat as a republican. Incumbent States Attorney Mike Twigg; Clerk of Court Dawne Lindsey; and Ophans Court Judges Donna May, Ed Crossland and Al Feldstein have all filed to run- and to date there are no challengers for those offices. Sheriff Craig Robertson is seeking a third term, and he will face a primary challenge from retired state trooper Jason Merritt. Finally,  Register of Wills Mary Beth Pirolozzi, a republican who was appointed to the post following the resignation of Becky Drew, has filed and could face off with former Allegany County Sheriff David Goad who has filed to run for the seat as a democrat.  Deadline to file is February 27th
